Fall back-to-school organization tips

Sad news folks; Summer is virtually over!  Good news – After such a scorching hot summer you’re probably looking forward to fall by now. The official date for fall’s arrival is September 23.  Now’s the time to enjoy some cooler days and use the time to prep for the colder weather approaching.

Fall is great for long brisk walks and other outdoor activity, since it’s not so hot and humid outside.  Fall is also a good time to clean and organize your apartment for all the days you will soon be spending inside.   It’s also a good time to organize the kids’ back-to-school stuff.  If you’re busy like most folks are these day, you want to keep it simple.  Here are a few organizing tips to get you started.

  • Rotate clothing by season and move anything that’s not weather appropriate in storage.  This will save space and help you to feel less bogged down with clothes you can’t wear.
  • For the jackets, umbrellas, backpacks, and purses that pile up this time of year, take a cue from your kid’s elementary school by installing double ceiling hooks underneath a shelf.
  • If sports equipment, bags, and shoes are constantly underfoot in your home, give everybody a separate space for such gear.  Slide the bins underneath a bench in the entryway.
  • When the cooler weather hits, fill a basket or bin with comfortable slippers or soft, heavy socks as a warm welcome for visitors – it’s a convenient and a great motivator to remove wet boots at the front door.

Hopefully, with some of these organizing tips, you’ll be on your way to a less stress fall and holiday season.
