Tips to Avoid Getting Locked Out

We have all had a scenario where we have been locked out of our apartments or our cars and have Rentals in New Hampshire from Forest Ridgewondered how we were going to get back in. It is a relatively common thing to do if you are a creature of habit and put your keys in a different location. There are many ways that you can solve this issue, especially when you live in a complex like Forest Ridge. While it is always a good idea to have a spare key somewhere you never remove except for an emergency, we don’t always have a spare key available right away. That is why you need to stay calm and think about what is going on with the apartment, then take action.

One way that you can solve this problem easily is to call the leasing office or even the emergency maintenance line. Many times they will have master keys that will allow them into the apartment, and they should be the first case for you to call should you get locked out. The importance of how soon they should let you in should be made clear. For example if you have pets inside that need to be taken care of you need to be able to get in or groceries to put away. Consider if they will take a while if you can run and grab dinner and be back.

If you do not have a spare key, talk to the leasing office about the rules for having a spare key. This will allow for you to know if you can make a spare key to store somewhere safe. We recommend keeping it in your car, or somewhere relatively inconspicuous that will not draw too much attention to the fact that you may have a spare key hiding out on the doorstep.

Another option that you can do is to provide additional keys to family and trustworthy neighbors. That way there you can easily access the apartment by a phone call to family members. This is useful because they can usually help but if they live a while away you may need to bother the maintenance man to help get you into your apartment.

A good way to prevent this is to create a habit for when you come in, and you go to leave. For example, if you usually put your keys back into your purse or onto a key holder when you get in, make sure that you maintain that. When you put your keys somewhere other than normal, this will normally be when you end up forgetting your keys and misplacing them. You want to make sure that you have everything when you go to leave. If you are prone to forgetfulness, you can quickly make a checklist to check for everything as you go to exit the house.

Getting locked out of the house is not the worst thing that could happen to you when you live in an apartment, but it is nerve-wracking. So breath, call the office and just get your keys back to where they belong as soon as possible.
